7th Annual World Day of the Poor

Sunday, November 19th, marks the Universal Church’s 7th Annual World Day of the Poor, instituted by Pope Francis in 2017 at the conclusion of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. An initiative of the Dicastery for Evangelization, His Holiness expressed that “this Day is meant, above all, to encourage believers to react against a culture of discard and waste, and to embrace the culture of encounter.” It is his desire “that in the week preceding the World Day of the Poor, Christian communities will make every effort to create moments of encounter and friendship, solidarity and concrete assistance.”
