World Day for Grandparents & the Elderly
UAC in the Spirit of the Dicastery for Laity, Family, & Life

Within the current papacy, the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life was instituted by Pope Francis on August 15th, 2016, through the Motu Proprio Sedula Mater. Its members and collaborators are both Religious and Lay Faithful from around the world, a distinctive mark of the Church's universality. One of the Dicastery's decisive roles is to approve International Associations of the Faithful; hence before its parallel mission, the Dicastery - by its very nature - is a fundamental part of the Union's growth.
In 2021, Pope Francis established World Day for Grandparents & the Elderly, held on the 4th Sunday of July; close to the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne. It’s entrusted to this Dicastery, as it is one of the first fruits of the Amoris Laetitia Family Year.
